A 13-year-old was allegedly raped by her uncle, an IT professional, at his house in Hulimavu.

The software professional was arrested on Monday after his wife complained to the police that their niece had been sexually abused by her husband over the last two years.

According to the police, the minor’s parents live in Kolkata. However, due to poor financial conditions, the girl had come to the city where she was taken care of by her aunt.

‘Six months ago’

The woman reportedly told the police that she first became aware of the sexual abuse six months ago following which she had asked her husband to give her money so that she could leave the house with her niece.

“He refused to give her money owing to which the couple had many arguments. She had told him earlier to stop abusing the child and alleged that he continued to do so. Finally, she decided to lodge a police complaint, based on which we arrested him,” said an officer in the Hulimavu police station.

The accused hails from Kolkata and had come to the city five years ago. He had been working at a private IT firm in Bilekahalli.

Following his arrest, he has been subjected to a medical examination by the police who are continuing further investigations.

A case of rape under Section 376 of the IPC has been registered.
