In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old woman was abducted recently while she was speaking on her mobile phone in front of her paying guest (PG) accommodation at Katriguppe by a rowdy, who took her to an under construction building and allegedly tried to rape her. The south division police have arrested the 24-year-old Akshay in connection with the case.

Based on CCTV footage and the information provided by locals, who had seen him in the area, the police arrested Akshay. “Locals were being harassed by him and during questioning, it came to light that he had been creating trouble in the area,” a police source said.

Akshay, who was arrested around 8 p.m. on Monday, was involved in an attempt to murder case in C.K. Achukattu in 2014.

The footage from a CCTV camera, fixed at a neighbour’s house, captured the chilling incident late on April 23. The footage emerged on Monday, following which the police registered a complaint around 5 p.m. The victim on Monday said she resisted the perpetrator’s attempts and escaped after biting his hand. While she rushed back to her PG and narrated her ordeal, the PG owner advised her not to go to the police.

The victim, a native of Manipur, works in a private beauty clinic. Minutes before the incident, she was dropped off outside the PG located near Maramma Temple by her friend. Just as she was about to enter her building, she received a call. While she was speaking on the phone, Akshay grabbed her from behind and took her to a building nearby.

The victim claimed the PG accommodation owner, Manjunath, tried to persuade her against filing a complaint
