Within a span of a month, IT major Wipro received a second threat email demanding a ransom of ₹500 crore in bitcoin. The email again warned of attack with RICIN chemical if the company failed to pay the ransom.

The police, who received the complaint from the company, said that the second mail also came from the same email address - Ramesh2@protonmail.com . The sender warned the company of “dire consequences” if the ransom was not paid within 72 hours.

The city cyber crime police has not got any leads in the first case. The IP address was traced to Switzerland, but it can be masked, the police said.

Meanwhile, Wipro on Friday said it has reinforced security measures at all its office locations after the second threat email.

“Wipro confirms that it has received a second threatening e-mail. Wipro has reinforced security measures at all its office locations. There is no impact on the company’s operations,” the company said in a statement.

The first mail was received on May 7, where the sender demanded ₹500 crore in bitcoin, failing which he warned of a bio-attack on employees.
