Governor H.R. Bhardwaj on Thursday ruled out his role in the appointment of the new Lokayukta. Speaking to presspersons after inaugurating a ‘Civic Sense' campaign of the Bangalore University here, Mr. Bhardwaj said: “I am just the implementing authority. The most I can do is prevent any delay in the appointment of the Lokayukta. For this, the moment I get the papers (of the recommendation of the Government), I will sign them.”

He sought to advise the Government on making the right choice. “There is no point in appointing a person as a Lokayukta and having him resign soon thereafter”, he said. The Governor also expressed his disagreement with the Advocate General's remarks on the Lokayukta report on illegal mining.
