Widow's murder: Fast track court awards life sentence to auto driver

February 26, 2013 06:48 pm | Updated 08:16 pm IST - Bangalore

The Fourth Fast track court on Monday sentenced a 26-year-old autorickshaw driver to life imprisonment for killing his girlfriend. The accused, Ramesh, had an affair with Nagaratna, a widow living in Mahadevapura with her two children. In August 2010, Ramesh strangulated her to death following a quarrel and fled the scene.

The Mahadevapura police initially thought that it was a murder for gain. But the two children of the deceased helped the police to zero in on Ramesh.

The police, while questioning the children about Nagaratna’s routine work, stumbled upon the information that Ramesh used to frequent their house to meet her. Based on the tip off, the police picked up Ramesh and a detailed questioning led to his confession to the crime.

The Mahadevapura police had filed a charge-sheet against him following which the court convicted Ramesh to life term and slapped a fine of Rs 25,000.
