If you thought the ‘Pushpaka Vimana’ existed only in the Ramayana, think again.
The crowds at Sankey Tank got to see a recreated one on Sunday when ‘Dream Team’ got out their homemade aircraft at the Redbull Flugtag event. The Dream Team members kept to the theme as they dressed up as Ravana, tigers and a few godmen.
When asked why Sita was missing, the team member dressed as Ravana said he planned to abduct someone from the crowd before his flight took off.
The participants at India’s first-ever Flugtag event proved their creativeness with the aircraft that attempted to fly from a 22-feet-high deck. A small jig performed by each of the teams before the flight also had the audience in splits.
20 hours to two monthsWhile the time taken by teams to build their aircraft ranged from a week to two months, it was a last-minute attempt by the members of ‘Puliyogare Mix’, which won the audience choice award. When asked about the timeframe to build it, the nightie-clad engineering students of M.S. Ramaiah College said it took them just about 20 hours.
Bangaloreans also got to witness what looked like a flying masala dosa tawa, called the ‘Masala Flightosa’, which came with accompanying sambar and chutney vessel-like constructions at the end of the aircraft.
Cartoons and comicsForget the Batmobile; there is a new vehicle in town. ‘Knight Wing’ team brought out their bat-shaped glider to the contest and wore the famous batman masks as they prepared to take off.
Similar themes based on well-known characters from comics were a popular choice at the event.
Team members of ‘Flintstoned’ came dressed as characters from Flinstones with their craft resembling a machine based in the stone age.
