Cities are never static. They are constantly evolving phenomena. Bengaluru, with its lakes and gardens, retirement homes and IT hubs, start-ups and brick-and-mortar businesses, is no exception. But the beating heart of every city is its community. And now more than ever, we need to restore and protect the fabric of Bengaluru.
The very things that made the city liveable are decaying. Lakes are frothing and overflowing. Green cover and open spaces are shrinking. Mass transport networks are falling short of people’s needs. With more cars on the road, traffic has become a nightmare and air pollution levels are on the rise. Potholes and garbage disposal remain perennial problems.
It may seem daunting, but the ability to turn Bengaluru around lies with each and every one of us. Change can happen: one road at a time, one lake at a time.
The Hindu invites its readers to write in and highlight issues in their neighbourhoods that the civic body and other concerned authorities need to address.
What’s your issue? Tell us which issues affect you and how, such as safety of women, bad roads, lakes, traffic, garbage, health and sanitation.
After collating your response over the next two weeks, we will focus on several issues that you have highlighted by stating the problem, proposing a solution and reaching out to the authorities.
Bengaluru is our city. Let’s protect what's left of it and ensure we find a solution to the problems we face.
