Water tanker rams house compound

May 13, 2013 02:02 pm | Updated 02:02 pm IST - BANGALORE:

A water tanker rammed the wall of a house and entered the compound at ISRO Layout here on Sunday evening. The vehicle, the police said, first hit an electricity pole and dragged it into the compound. The driver abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene.

The tenants of the house had a lucky escape as they were not in when the accident occurred. The house owner, T. Gurudutt, blamed the BBMP and the traffic police for the accident.

He said that traffic on the road where the accident occurred has been a source of trouble for the residents.

“The road is very narrow and less than 30 feet wide. But heavy vehicles are forced to ply on it as it is an important arterial road,” he said.

He also said that the residents’ welfare association had made several representations to the Subramanyapura Traffic police and the BBMP office to at least build a decent footpath but nothing has happened.

“It is very dangerous for people to walk on the road as there is no footpath,” Mr. Gurudutt said.
