War over memorial intensifies

April 11, 2010 03:20 pm | Updated 03:20 pm IST - Bangalore:

Even as the public opposition to the construction of the National Military Memorial (NMM) inside the Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain Park here has increased, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, MP and Chairman of the NMM Committee, met Governor H.R. Bhardwaj on Saturday to allay concerns and share the project details with him.

The foundation stone for the memorial was laid on February 10, 2008, by the then Governor Rameshwar Thakur.

Design

During the meeting, Mr. Chandrasekhar is said to have presented to the Governor the layout and design of the proposed memorial. In a press release, Mr. Chandrasekhar said: “It is unfortunate that such a noble cause is dragged into a messy debate. The cause for this is clearly lack of accurate information.”
