On Sunday afternoon, a large group of students and activists participated in a walkathon from the campus of the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies here through Koramangala to create awareness on safety of women and the girl child.
They shouted slogans against social apathy towards the issues women face. Participants in the rally spoke against the way women are treated in society. Students interacted with passers by in the area. A street play, named ‘Atmagalani’, was performed. It highlighted issues that women face in various spheres of life. Nishant Trisal, a student and director of the play, said that the purpose of staging this was to increase awareness on the issue and inspire people to come together to change the social mindset which is responsible for increased crimes on women.
This event was held in collaboration with Vidyaranya Education and Development Society (VEDS), an NGO for women and children. Suresh Mony, Director, NMIMS, Bangalore, said that society needs to take stern measures to curb this menace. A debate competition on ‘Conservative traditions/thinking of society: Reason behind crimes against Women?’ was also conducted at the institute before the march.
