The Congress candidate for Bangalore Central, Rizwan Arshad on Wednesday said he planned to set up a ‘vision group’ to address people’s problems in the constituency if he was elected.
Listing out his plans for the constituency at a “meet the press” interaction organised by the Bangalore Reporters’ Guild here, Mr. Rizwan said: “The vision group will guide me in taking decisions on development of the constituency. Bangalore Central is a confluence of slums, IT corridors, high-profile business houses and the central business district (CBD). So, I want to involve citizen groups and intellectuals to guide me.”
He said the infrastructure in Bangalore Central had to take the load off the entire city as the central business district was located in the constituency.
Dismissing the existence of a “Modi” wave, the Congress State Youth wing president said: “I have interacted with thousands of people but most of them in my constituency are not even aware of Mr. Modi. The so-called ‘Modi wave’ is a just media-induced phrase used by the BJP.”
He said that former Railway Minister and veteran Congress leader C. K. Jaffer Sharief’s absence from campaigning would not hit his prospects as he was not banking on the votes of any particular community. “I belong to the youth community. Mr. Sharief is our tallest leader. He is unwell and we do not want him to campaign at the cost of his health.”
