Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda on Thursday promised to allot 3,000 square feet of land on the premises of Victoria Hospital to conduct artificial foot camps on a regular basis.

Speaking after inaugurating the 15th annual free mega Jaipur foot Camp organised by Rotary Peenya in association with Jain Sangha at Ganesh Bagh on Infantry Road, the Chief Minister said he would discuss with the hospital authorities about the availability of the land.

Appreciating the organisers of the camp for their efforts to better the lives of physically challenged persons, the Chief Minister said such camps would instil confidence among the persons with disabilities. “Such camps will not only provide mobility to the physically challenged but also enable them to earn a living and lead a life of dignity,” Mr. Gowda said.

Nearly 600 physically challenged persons availed themselves of the benefits at the camp on the first day (Thursday). They were provided Jaipur foot, callipers and crutches free of cost. The camp is on till January 11.

In the past few years, Rotary Bangalore Peenya has provided 5,263 Jaipur foot implants, 12,354 callipers, 5,100 crutches, 411 tricycles and 720 wheel chairs to the affected persons.

“We have also introduced Prosthetic Hand (upper limb) for people who have lost their forehand due to electrocution or accidents. While 200 such hands have been fitted in the past two years, 100 more will be implanted this year,” a spokesperson for the organisers added.
