‘Victoria, Bowring suffer due to inefficiency in other hospitals ’

Health Minister promises to reduce pressure on two hospitals

April 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - BENGALURU:

Attributing “inefficient” service in various government hospitals to the “increasing pressure” on Victoria and Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospitals, Minister for Health U.T. Khader on Tuesday promised an action plan to decrease pressure on the two major government hospitals in the heart of the city.

Launching Mission Indradhanush, an immunisation campaign by the Centre, the minister accused medical superintendents of K.C. General Hospital, Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health, Jayanagar besides government hospitals at K.R. Puram and Yelahanka of “not discharging their duty with honesty and integrity”. “Had they (medical superintendents) discharged their duty keeping the interest of patients in mind, the situation would have been totally different,” Mr. Khader noted.

He promised to procure necessary equipment to overcome the problems faced by patients in the Intensive Care and Dialysis units in various hospitals.

On the delay in distributing Madilu kits for mothers, Mr. Khader said Karnataka Handloom Development Corporation (KHDC) is not offering them at the stated price. “Hence, the government has directed KHDC to supply four lakh quality kits at Rs. 1,000 each and has forwarded a new proposal in this regard to the Finance Department,” he said.

Regretting “degradation of moral values” among a section of doctors, Minister for Medical Education Sharanprakash Patil asked them to introspect in the interest of society.
