Getting the police to verify the antecedents of a person for a marriage alliance, of a domestic help or even a job aspirant is as easy as walking into a Karnataka/Bangalore One centre.
Ever since the system to apply for police verification or a clearance certificate was streamlined recently, the Bangalore City Police have been receiving an average of 100 applications daily.
“The public can use this service after paying the prescribed fee either at the Karnataka or Bangalore One centres or at the office of the Commissioner of Police. The main aim is to remove the middlemen offering these services,” an officer said.
Some private companies in Bangalore have been, for a fee, taking up verification on behalf of clients.
The ‘Single Application Form for All Type of Police Verifications’, covered under the Sakala scheme, launched around three months ago includes requests for 14 kinds of verification certificates, including antecedents of domestic help, job aspirants, marriage alliances and address verification as well as Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) for going abroad and for organ donation. The fee ranges from Rs. 50 to Rs. 1,000, and verification will be completed within 20 days.
The latest to join the list of those wishing to apply for these services are city schools. With the initial deadline set by the city police to comply with the guidelines issued to schools ending on August 31, several schools have utilised the verification services of the police for background and antecedent checks on their staff. School managements asked teachers and assistant teachers to submit the applications using the single window system.
