Members of various organisations, such as Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane, Students Federation of India (SFI), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday and demanded the arrest of Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami of Ramachandrapur Mutt, who is facing charges of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation.

Raising slogans against the State government for the delay in taking action against the seer, the protestors noted that it was unfortunate that a government that claimed to be secular had failed to act swiftly in the case. “It is highly reprehensible that the seer is going scot-free despite complaints of sexual harassment of woman and a minor against him,” they added.

SFI district president K. Vasudeva Reddy, secretary C. Amaresh, JMS leader K.M. Susheela, CITU district secretary Nagarathnamma and others participated.
