Upa Lokayukta pulls up BBMP officials for building collapse

August 21, 2013 01:04 pm | Updated 01:04 pm IST - Bangalore

Two days after the multi-storeyed under-construction residential building collapsed in Someshwara Nagar, Upa Lokayukta Justice S.B. Majage visited the spot on Wednesday and pulled up civic officials for their negligence leading to the mishap.

The owner of the building was permitted to construct only for ground plus two floors but an additional four floors had been constructed. Though the residents brought it to their notice, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials ignored the continuing construction activity after merely serving two notices to owner Mohammed Saleem as a “mere formality,” Lokayukta officials said.

Justice Majage has sought an explanation from the BBMP officials on their failure to initiate action.

He inspected the site along with other senior officials including the technical team of Lokayukta.
