Professional seat aspirants in the State now have some clarity on the admission process as the State government finally declared the seat matrix and counselling schedule for government and government-quota seats on Tuesday evening.

The government had come under fire for the delay in announcing the schedule and availability of seats for the Common Entrance Test (CET) rank holders.

What rubbed the salt into the wound was the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) starting its counselling for private undergraduate medical seats on Tuesday, ahead of the CET counselling for the first time ever.

Seat matrix

According to officials of the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), there are 1,658 MBBS seats. The fee for a government-quota seat is Rs. 46,000, and for a government seat Rs. 18,700. There are 752 BDS seats. The fee for the dental seat is Rs. 35,000 (government quota) and Rs. 25,390 (government seat).

As for BE (engineering), 45 per cent of the total 96,460 are under the KEA, which is around 46,650. The fee is Rs. 41,390 (government quota) and Rs. 16,700 (government seat). As for the B.Sc. farm courses introduced under the CET for the first time, there are 3,250 seats, officials said.

The commencement of option entry was announced just hours before it began, at 11 p.m. on Tuesday. While the option entry will go on till 11 p.m. on July 7, mock allotment and its announcement will be made on July 8 at 10 a.m. Students have time from 12.30 p.m. on July 8 to 5 p.m. the next day to modify options. The real allotment will be made on July 10, and the last date for reporting to colleges after paying the fees is July 15, 5 p.m. The second round of seat allotment is on July 23.

The option entry for diploma students is from July 12 to 15 and real allotment on July 18. For B.Sc. graduates opting for engineering courses (under the lateral entry introduced this year), option entry is from July 27 to 28, and real allotment on July 29.

COMEDK counselling

Meanwhile, the COMEDK counselling for medical and dental seats started on Tuesday and will go on till Wednesday, while the counselling for engineering seats will be held from July 5 to 15. The second round of counselling for medical/dental will be held on July 19, and from July 22 to 37 for engineering.

Last year, the CET rank holders were given 10 days for entry of options — from July 10 to 19. While the mock allotment was made on July 20, the real allotment of seats was made on July 25.
