Uncertainty over BBMP elections

January 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - Bengaluru:

Though the term of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) council draws to a close in three months, the spectre of uncertainty shrouds the election for the new council.

The Committee for Restructuring BBMP is expected to submit its report in the end of June, two months after scheduled elections. Sources said the choice for the government would either be to hold elections or wait for an “uncertain time” for the acceptance of the report.

“If everything goes smoothly, it may take a year for the process to restructure BBMP to be in effect. Else, realistically, it may take up to two years for the report to be implemented. It has yet to be decided to wait for the report or conduct elections,” said a source connected to the committee.
