For engineering college aspirants in the State, there are uncertain times ahead. The “indefinite” postponement of the engineering college admission rounds slated to commence on June 18, will only prolong their anxiety. However, many parents feel that waiting for AICTE approval is a good thing if it ensures the accreditation status of the colleges that will be on offer. Students were sent SMS of this latest development.
“This will create a big problem for me as I have also applied for AIEEE and for a deemed university in Chennai. My decision to opt for either of those would have been dependent on the outcome of the CET counselling,” says Prashant (name changed). He wanted to get a seat in R.V.C.E, Bangalore.
Tough task
While students like Prashant, who are among the top rankers only have to wait it out, things are much tougher for those with lower ranks.
For instance, Aparna K.S., whose rank is in the 4000s, will find that her admission rounds here will clash with that in other private or deemed colleges, and in other States. “The top rankers always have some idea of what they are in for. For students like me, we have to weigh our options only after seeing what seat we will get in CET,” she says.
Rama Joshi, a parent of an engineering aspirant, hoped that the Comed-K will consider changing its counselling schedule. “If both schedules clash, that will be very difficult for us. CET is obviously our first choice, but if we are unable to get a good college then we need Comed-K as a backup,” she said.
