The high motor traffic density in Bangalore has prompted the State government to consider introducing two-wheeler ambulances.
Speaking on the sidelines of the fifth anniversary of the 108 Arogya Kavacha services, Minister for Health U.T. Khader said that one such two-wheeler ambulance is ready for the pilot launch.
Stating that traffic jams in the city lead to delay in ambulances reaching patients to hospital, the Minister said that the government would consider introducing more such ambulances based on the success of the pilot scheme.
He said that the two-wheeler ambulance would have a first-aid kit, which the rider will be qualified to administer. The rider will also maintain contact with the nearest four-wheeler ambulance and act as a feeder service.
The government will replace 150 old ambulances with 94 new ones.
S.S. Pervez, marketing head of GVK EMRI which runs the 108 ambulance service, spoke.
