‘Two years for KSPCB to respond to citizens’ complaints’

July 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - Bengaluru:

How long does it take for authorities to crack down on noisy machines? If the struggle of over 250 families at Nagawara against noise emanating from a large IT complex is any indication, it could take over two years just to get the KSPCB to take the matter seriously. “We complained to KSPCB for two years before a show-cause notice was issued,” said a member of the managing committee of M.S. Ramaiah North City Residents’ Welfare Association, which claims to represent over 250 families.

The regional officer inspected the site in September 2015. Armed with data showing excessive noise, a public hearing was conducted in October. When no improvement was seen, a series of warnings were issued. Another hearing was conducted in April this year followed by an inspection in June, which showed that the noise persisted.
