A 70-year-old woman and her 49-year-old daughter were killed on the spot when a speeding truck ran over them, crushing them to death in Banasawadi on Monday morning.

The deceased Vellachi (70), resident of Flower Park in Banaswadi, had gone to Tamil Nadu to celeberate Deepawali and retured home in the early hours. Her daughter Vasantha, who was a domestic help, had come to receive her at the bus stop. After she alighted, Vellachi and Vasantha were trying to cross the road. A speeding truck, however, ran over them. The duo came under the rear wheels of the truck.

Sensing trouble, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene, even as passers-by rushed to help Vellachi and Vasantha.

The Banasawadi traffic police rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies for post-morten. Efforts are on to track down the driver.
