Two women committed suicide in the city on Sunday.

The police said that Vijayalakshmi M. (45), daughter of retired judge the late M.S. Patil, was found hanging from the ceiling of her room at her house in the Judges Colony in R.T. Nagar here on Sunday morning. She was undergoing dialysis and had been upset since her father’s death six months ago. The incident came to light when Vijayalakshmi’s mother went to her room to give her tea. She alerted the police. A case has been registered.

In the other incident, a woman identified as Suma (22) was found hanging at her house in Ulsoor Gate limits. She had been married for three years and had a two-year-old son. The police said that her son and his cousin, both toddlers, were fighting over a petty issue after which Suma beat her son.

However, when her mother-in-law and others in the joint family she was living in reprimanded her for beating the child, she was upset and went into the room. They later found her dead. Quoting family members, police said that Suma was short-tempered and suspect a petty argument may have led to the suicide..
