Two persons including a 25-year-old executive of a private bank riding a motorcycle were killed when a speeding goods vehicle knocked them down at Gudibande on the outskirts of the city on Saturday morning.

Zakir Hussain (25), who was working in the city, was returning to his home town Tadpatri in Andhra Pradesh for weekend holidays. He was accompanied on the pillion by his friend Narasimha Reddy (32), who was also a private firm employee. During the wee hours, a speeding canter knocked their bike down and sped away. Due to the impact the duo slipped from the bike and sustained severe head injuries since they were not wearing helmets and died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.

The incident came to light when passers-by noticed the bodies and a crushed bike in the middle of the road and alerted the police.

The police rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to Chickballapur district hospital for post-mortem. The police managed to identify the canter and efforts are on to nab the driver who is on the run, a senior police officer said.
