Two of the nine prisoners who had escaped from Meerut district jail last month, were arrested near Bangalore, police said on Thursday.

Faizan and Shabir along with seven other prisoners had escaped from Chaudhary Charan Singh jail by scaling prison wall with the help of a pipe on July 19. The two were arrested on Wednesday night in Bangalore, they said.

Police said they had arrested five of them within a month after the incident.

One of the nine prisoners, Shakeel, was shot dead in an encounter with a police team on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Meerut police officials have left for Bangalore to bring back the duo.
