The Fraud and Misappropriation wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested an autorickshaw driver for trying to sell 200 litres of Kerosene in black market meant for people of below poverty line (BPL).
The seized kerosene was pilfered from a fair price shop under Public Distribution system (PDS).
Based on a tip off a team of officials confronted Sampa Uddandi (66) and seized his vehicle along with the barrel of 200 litres kerosene worth Rs. 40,000.
The accused confessed that he got the kerosene from Elumalai, a fair price shop owner on Old Madras Road, sell the oil in black market and share the booty.
CCB officials have taken the two men into custody and are trying to ascertain for how long have the two been involved in the racket.
In a similar case in March this year, CCB officials busted a racket where rice meant for State-sponsored Anna Bhagya Scheme was stolen to be sold in the open market.
The CCB sleuths intercepted two trucks in Hosakote and found 50 tonnes of rice sacks meant to be delivered to farmers co-operative society in Sarjapura was being transported to rice mills in Bangarpet.
Rice mill owners processed the rice stolen from Anna Bhagya and sold it in the open market for a higher price and shared the booty with the officials involved in the scam. Police seized rice sacks worth Rs. 10 lakh and handed over the case to the Jurisdictional Ramamurthy Nagar police, but the case has not moved any further since then.
