An alert woman helped nab two persons while they were trying to escape after allegedly kidnapping her nine-month-old boy in Bettadasapura, Electronics City, here on Friday.
The police identified the accused as Raja (21), and Salaam (20). According to the police, the accused came to India three years ago from Bangladesh, without valid documents and worked here as rag-pickers. On Friday, they allegedly picked up Krish, son of Rinku and Kamlesh, a couple from Uttar Pradesh, while he was playing outside their house. The accused, who came near the house on the pretext of picking rags, kidnapped the baby and tried to escape by hiding the boy inside a gunny bag.
Rinku, who came out of the house noticed them fleeing with her baby and raised an alarm. Neighbours caught them and rescued the baby. The Electronics City police rushed to the spot and took the two into custody. Preliminary investigations revealed that they had allegedly planned to kidnap the child to rob its valuables. However, the police suspect that they planned to sell the baby.
“We are investigating further to ascertain whether the accused are part of any gang from Bangladesh,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) T.D. Pawar said.
