Two foreign students, who attempted to steal petrol from a two-wheeler parked in a basement of a service apartment complex in Hennur, inadvertently caused a fire when one of them threw a lit cigarette on the spilt petrol.

One bike, from which the duo stole petrol, was completely gutted in the fire, while six other vehicles were damaged.

The Hennur police have arrested the two students identified as Wail Mansour (22), a Sudanese national, and Mustafa Mubarak (22) from Bahrain. While Mansour, a resident of R.T. Nagar, was pursuing an engineering course, Mubarak, a resident of Hennur Bande, was a pharmacy student. Both were studying at the Rajiv Gandhi College in Kogilu, Yelahanka, the police said.
