Two days after mother-daughter duo were washed away in the drain at Laggere, near Kurubarahalli, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel found the body of 22-year-old Pushpa in a storm-water drain at Kumbalgodu.

The NDRF personnel are still searching for the body of her mother Ningamma. On Thursday night, following heavy rains, both Ningamma and Pushpa were washed away in the drain after water gushed into their home.

Meanwhile, two persons drowned and died on Sunday morning. While a 16-year-old girl drowned in an overflowing rajakaluve (big storm-water drain) at Krishna Garden in C.V. Raman Nagar, a 35-year-old man drowned in an overflowing pit at Hallimaranadoddi, on the outskirts of Ramanagar Rural.

According to the police, the 16-year-old, identified as Narasamma, was working as a construction labourer and lived in a make-shift hutment along with other migrant labourers from Kalaburagi. They said the incident occurred when she went to attend nature’s call in the morning and slipped into the drain. The other slum dwellers, who noticed this, rushed to rescue her. However, she drowned and died before they were able to rescue her. Her body has been recovered.

Nandish (35), a resident of Thimmasandta, drowned in an overflowing pit at Hallimaranadoddi, which was formed due to illegal sand mining, according to the villagers. With heavy rains lashing the area over the past few days, the pit was filled with water and had started overflowing.

Nandish accompanied his three friends to the pit. It was while he was trying to take a video of the water overflowing from the pit on his mobile phone that he fell into it after some mud around it collapsed. His friends could not rescue him owing to the heavy flow of water from the pit.

The villagers, along with the police, rushed to the spot and efforts are on to trace Nandish.
