Two persons, including a woman, sustained minor injuries when a bear attacked them at M.N. Kote in Gubbi taluk of Tumakuru district on Tuesday.

Karibasamma (45) and Rangappa (50) were attacked in two separate incidents when they went to relieve themselves in the open. While Karibasamma was attacked on the thigh and admitted to Nittur hospital, Rangappa sustained injuries on his legs and cheeks and was treated at the Tumakuru district government hospital.

Range Forest Officer Ramesh told The Hindu that, “Both are said to be out of danger. As the Thirtharampura forest is near the village, the bear could have entered the human habitat.”

Night patrolling is being intensified in M.N. Kote village, he added.
