The tussle for power in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) spilled over to the streets on Friday. Thousands of motorists were stuck in a huge traffic pile up after BJP activists staged a protest in front of Town Hall.

Movement of traffic on the busy J.C. Road was affected for over three hours. The problem spilled over to adjacent thoroughfares. The BJP was protesting against the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) joining hands to take over the reins in BBMP.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded in over a km-long traffic jam, starting from V.V. Puram junction to Town Hall junction as soon as the protestors gathered. Traffic movement near K.R. Market, Mysuru Road flyover, KG Road, Hudson Circle was affected.

The traffic police were helpless even as frustrated commuters, stuck in the sweltering afternoon heat, honked and shouted at them to clear the roads.

Former Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashok, who led the protest, accused the ruling Congress of trying to form an unholy nexus with the JD(S) to grab power. “A desperate Congress is abducting JD(S) members and locking them in resorts to gain power. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is managing the entire show by deputing his loyal legislators to ensure that his game succeedS,” he said.
