The Forest Department personnel and the police are trying to drive away two tuskers which have separated from their herd and straying at two different places in Bangarpet taluk.
Five elephants were sighted at Mutanur forest area a couple of days ago. However two among them were separated from the herd and were moving in the surrounding areas, creating panic among the villagers. On Thursday, one tusker was seen at Karamadoddi while the other was seen at Thoppanahalli. Three others were in the Mutanur forest.
A number of forest and police personnel, led by Assistant Conservator of Forests Venkatesh and Bangarpet Range Forest Officer H. Chinnappaiah, are involved in the operations to prevent the lone tuskers from entering residential areas.
Night time is ideal to drive away the elephants since there will be no mob of curious people, sources said.
One of the lone tuskers went on the rampage in Naganahalli and damaged tomato crop and plantains.
