The young tusker, which had got separated from its herd at Advangi forest in Nelamangala taluk and trampled two people to death earlier in the week, returned to the forest early on Friday.
It had killed two persons on July 30 and August 1 in Chitradurga and Tumkur districts. The animal, which was near Mookanahallipatna tank in Tumkur district on Thursday, started to retrace its steps around 6.30 p.m. and reached Advangi forest on Friday morning.
Assistant Conservator of Forests Devaraj said: “A team of six members from the Forest Department will be sent to Advangi forest to help the officers and staff there.” He said he had informed them about the elephant in their range.
As there are elephants in Savandurga forest in Magadi taluk, the tusker may go there, he added. The tusker has returned in the same route in which it came to Tumkur
and Chitradurga districts.
