A few months after launching the public bike share system, Trin Trin, in Mysuru, the State government is now gearing up to introduce it in the city.
On Wednesday, the Cabinet cleared the project for Bengaluru at a cost of ₹80.18 crore for 10-15 kilometres across a few popular areas in the city.
Launched in Mysuru this June, around 450 cycles were procured for the city which has a vehicle population of 8.15 lakh.
However, for Bengaluru, around 6,000 cycles will be procured for six neighbourhoods, including MG Road, Indiranagar, HBR layout, Koramangala, HSR layout and Kacharakanahalli.
In HSR layout, ‘Cycle Days’ have been held more than 20 times and paired with events like ‘Open Streets’ where traffic is banned.
The logistics of the initiative including rent as well as the time frame will be chalked out soon. In Mysuru, the bicycles are free for the first one hour.
