A day after Governor Vajubhai Vala sent back the ordinance on trifurcation of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the State government decided to brief him again on the necessity of splitting the civic body, which was facing severe financial difficulties and had not cleared bills worth Rs. 6,000 crore.

On Saturday, Mr. Vala returned the ordinance and sought more clarifications from the government. After Chief Minister Siddaramaiah chaired a meeting with city Congress legislators and Ministers on Sunday, Minister for Transport and Bengaluru district in charge Ramalinga Reddy told presspersons that a decision on holding elections to the BBMP council would be taken based on the High Court verdict.

Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs T.B. Jayachandra said the Bharatiya Janata Party favoured splitting of the BBMP when it was in power in the State.
