In order to widen the congested Lalitha Mahal Road here, trees might have to be felled, Minister for Medical Education and Mysore district in-charge S.A. Ramdas said on Saturday.
The Minister, who undertook a padayatra in Ward 63 of the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) in the Krishnaraja Assembly segment, heard citizens' grievances regarding Lalitha Mahal Road, Bannur Road, Alanahalli Extension, Siddarthnagar and Kurubarahalli. The complaints included issues related to construction and repair of roads, supply of drinking water, electricity and transport problems and development of parks.
Mr. Ramdas was mobbed by residents of Kurubarahalli, who demanded that Lalitha Mahal Road be widened. He told them that according to the Tree Court directions, the matter would be referred to the civil court here and widening work expedited. The citizens complained that the narrow and congested road had led to several accidents. Mr. Ramdas said the MCC would look into it, and asked the officials concerned to invite tenders from private parties to maintain all parks in the ward. The officials of the MCC and the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) were told to install three high-mast lamps at each of the important circles in Ward 63 limits.
The Minister stated that a donor had come forward to construct an ayurveda hospital in the ward if a suitable MUDA site was identified. He announced that a sum of Rs. 2 lakh and Rs. 1 lakh respectively would be released to develop the Siddhi Vinayaka Swami temple and the Panchamukhi Ganapati temple at Alanahalli under the Aradhana scheme.
Responding to the demands of the residents of Siddarthnagar and Alanahalli Extension areas, Mr. Ramdas instructed Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) officials to improve transport facilities and introduce a Volvo service to those areas in a month.
Mr. Ramdas announced that a rock garden would come up on an area of 45 acres close to the Lalitha Mahal. The project would be launched soon.
A Rs. 10-lakh action plan had been readied to improve amenities at the Scheduled Caste burial grounds at Alanahalli, the Minister said. Work would begin soon. Mr. Ramdas instructed Mysore tahsildar Manjunath to take steps to evict people if they had encroached upon tanks in and around Alanahalli. The Minister performed the ground-breaking ceremony to the construct the compound wall of the Basava Balaga Veerashaiva Rudrabhoomi (burial grounds) on Lalitadri Road on the occasion.
