The Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners and Agents’ Association that stopped transportation of sand for the last four days, on Thursday said it was planning on stopping transportation of other construction material if its demands are not met.

“We will stop transporting stone aggregates, steel and cement if our demands are not met within one week,” association president G.R. Shanmugappa told presspersons here. He said the State government was showing apathy despite the strike by lorry owners.

The lorry owners are on strike demanding adequate supply of sand, which is now being extracted by the Public Works Department. They are also protesting against the stringent measures put in place by the government to curb illegal supply of sand. The strike by the sand transporters has disrupted the construction industry in the State. — Staff Reporter
