Trainees of a private company held hostage the mother of the firm’s chief executive officer even as they staged a protest outside its premises on Bannerghatta Road on Wednesday.
The protesting trainees were demanding that the management return the security deposit of Rs. 30,000 that had been collected from each one of them.
According to an employee, who wished to remain anonymous, said that around 300 job aspirants were appointed as trainee Java developers. “We were told that during the four-month training period, we would be paid a stipend of Rs. 7,000 a month. The management told us that we will be given jobs at the end of the training period, with a salary of Rs. 12,500 a month,” she said and added that they had not been paid for the last four months.
Fifteen such trainees went to the CEO’s house on Wednesday afternoon. The CEO was not at home, his brother told them that he would bring him home and he left but did not return. So the CEO’s mother was forced to accompany them to the company, where they decided to stage a protest.
Another trainee claimed that they were informed by the owner of the apartment in which the CEO stays that the family had planned to vacate the house later this month.
Late in the night, a group of employees, accompanied by the CEO’s mother, went to the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Jayanagar subdivision to lodge a complaint against the company.
The police personnel there asked them to go to MICO Layout police station. The group of protestors went to the MICO Layout police station and lodged a complaint late on Wednesday. At the time of going to print, it was not clear whether the CEO’s mother had been left off by the protesters.
