November 22, 2010 12:00 pm | Updated 12:00 pm IST - BANGALORE:

Traffic restrictions on Old Post Office Road connecting K.R. Circle and Mysore Bank Circle came into force on Sunday, with buses, trucks and other heavy vehicles diverted into Seshadri Road and Palace Road. Two-wheelers and cars will use the new alternative road that has been laid across the Central College Grounds.

A few days ago, the traffic police announced the traffic diversions on Old Post Office Road and Ambedkar Veedhi to facilitate the metro rail work at the Central College Grounds, Vidhana Soudha and Minsk Square.

On Sunday, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. authorities put up barricades and closed a portion of the Old Post Office Road. Another set of barricades were placed near K.R. Circle to allow two-wheelers and cars to use the alternative road. A huge board indicating a ban on the movement of, trucks and buses was placed. The police allowed two-way movement of vehicles on the road.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Security) Praveen Sood said the police would study the movement of traffic on Old Post Office Road for about a week. Only then would they divert the traffic between the K.R. Circle and Police Thimmaiah (GPO) Circle, and at Minsk Square.
