Unsure about travelling alone in an autorickshaw or a taxi? Just download “bSafe Beta”, a mobile phone application that was recently launched by the city traffic police.

The app, police say, can be downloaded on any smart phone, and has many unique features such as exact fare for the distance covered. All the commuter has to do is scan the QR Code on the new display boards or key in the unique serial number of the display board. The app allows the commuter the option of reporting the errant/ suspicious behaviour of the driver with just a click of a button.

The new display boards with details of the driver and validity of his/her licence have already been installed in some autorickshaws plying in the city. Soon, these display boards with the QR code will be made compulsory in the cabs as well, said C.K. Baba, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic – East).

“There are around 80,000 autorickshaws and an equal number of cabs plying in the city. Such applications will not only keep the drivers under check, but also ensure safety of commuters.”

Mr. Baba said the app would come in handy for commuters who are tired of dealing with errant autorickshaw and cab drivers. Several citizens have even complained that despite their repeated appeals to the traffic police about such drivers, no action is taken against them. The app will help commuters track their ride, besides helping police bring such driver to book.
