Traffic movement in and around Majestic area was disrupted for several hours following a rally organised by Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha demanding land for the poor and landless farmers.
The rally comprising over 5,000 members was flagged off by freedom fighter Doreswamy. People marched from City Railway station via Anand Rao circle to reach Freedom park.
Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa visited the park to listen to the woes and assured them that the government was working on allotting land to the farmers.
The protesters also demanded that the government should sanction five acres of land to the poor and landless farmers. The want encroached land to be recovered to set up industries which could generate employment for the poor people.
Meanwhile, members of Bharatiya Janata Party staged a protest at Anand Rao circle against the State government on the alleged attack on ABVP members and soft stand on the Amnesty International’s case.
BJP leader R. Ashok criticised the government of shielding the accused who he said were allegedly involved in anti-national activities and said that the government is trying to subdue the protesters by filing false cases against them.
In this regards, a team of advocates went to Rajbhavan to submit a memorandum to the Governor.
Similar protest was also held by ABVP members at Mourya circle demanding arrest of the accused.
The protesters also said that they would continue the agitation for the next 48 hours and file a complaint against Chief Minister, Home Minister and the Director General and Inspector General of Police for failing to handle the case.
Traffic movement was disrupted on Sheshadri road, Anand Circle circle, Race Course road, K.R. Circle and K.R. Road due to the protest.
As a precautionary measure, the police had blocked the roads and diverted traffic to the adjacent roads leading to chaotic situation.
