The Sadashiva Nagar police have arrested a 35-year-old man from Kolkata for duping an Assam-based businessman promising a Medical seat for his daughter in a reputed college.

The accused, Ajitesh Mondal, along with his associates Pinki Pal Singh, Rawal Singh and Shiva, were operating their racket from an office on New BEL Road, luring people from outside the State with offer of seats at reputed colleges for professional courses.

The victim, M.S. Neelashi Bora Goyal, had approached Ajitesh Mondal who demanded Rs. 20 lakh for the medical seat and had taken Rs. 17.8 lakh in 2015. However Goyal came to know that his daughter did not get a seat and approached the accused who returned part of the money and later went underground. After many futile attempts to reach them, Goyal approached the Sadashiva Nagar police.

Based on the complaint, the police track down Ajitesh Mondal in Kolkata and efforts are on to nab the others. The police have recovered a sum of Rs. 5.5 lakh from him. He has been taken into custody.
