With the rejig of the Tourism Department and the announcement of the constitution of a new tourism council exclusively for Bengaluru, members of the empowered group of the Karnataka Tourism Vision Group (KTVG) have decided to step down and make way for the new team.
The committee consisted of T.V. Mohandas Pai, chairman of Manipal Global Education Services, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, CMD of Biocon, V. Ravichandar, civic evangelist, and Abhay Jain, advisor, Group Corporate Affairs of Manipal Education and Medical Group. KTVG was first formed in October 2013 with 27 nominated members and 23 invitees. Its role ended three months later, when the vision group submitted its report and recommendations. In 2014, an empowered committee of KTVG was formed.
Confirming the development, Ms. Shaw said the original council tendered their resignations around two weeks ago to Priyank Kharge, who replaced R.V. Deshpande as Tourism Minister recently. “We collectively decided to resign in keeping with good governance and to let the Minister have the freedom to appoint a council of his choice,” she said.
Mr. Ravichandar added that all the KTVG projects are housed with the Tourism Department, which would take it forward. The committee will chip in during the transition period.
