Although none of the students from the State made it to the top three spots in the Class 12 CBSE exams, several top scorers in the city attributed their success not to the number of hours spent with their books but on smart planning.
Samina Shiraj Mulani, from Sri Kumaran Children’s Home, Mallasandra, who secured an aggregate of 99.2% in the Science stream, said she paid attention in class. “I meticulously took notes, so I only had to study from my notes and NCERT textbooks. I went for coaching as well and though I initially found it difficult to manage my time I slowly got into the habit of stretching myself to study 3-4 hours at home after school and coaching,” she said.
Kanika Mittal, the topper from National Public School, Koramangala in science stream scored 97.8% and bagged 99 in Mathematics and English. She chose to study at her own pace. “Only when the exam date started nearing that I began to put in more effort,” said Kanika who taught English to the school’s support staff and was the captain of the girl’s basketball team in school.
For Abhigyan Chatterjee, who emerged the commerce stream topper in Delhi Public School Bangalore South with an 96.6% in the AISSCE 2018 board examinations, the secret is quality over quantity. “I would never sit for long hours to study. I focused only on revision and mock tests.”
In the Humanities stream, Vibha Krishnaprasad Nadig, the topper at Sri Kumaran Children’s Home, Mallasandra with 97.4% said, “The only thing I focused on was maintaining my physical and mental health. I made sure I got 8 hours of sleep. Psychology was my favourite subject as it taught me the aspects of mental balance which came handy while preparing for the exam,” she said.
