Top NDFB leader arrested in Bengaluru

National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Songbijit’s top leader Burlung Bhutur was arrested by the Karnataka police in Bengaluru on Friday on a tip-off from the Assam police, said a police official here.

The NDFB leader known as Birkhang Basumatary was allegedly involved in the killing of eight Adivasis at Lungsung on December 23 and six Hindi-speaking persons at Serfanguri in Kokrajhar district of Assam on January 16 last year, IGP L.R. Bishnoi said. Mr. Bishnoi termed the arrest as a “big catch”. — PTI

Confirms arrest

Staff Reporter from Bengaluru adds: City Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi confirmed that one person had been picked up, based on the Assam police’s tip-off. He said further details of the person would be made known when the Assam police arrive in the city.
