‘Told not to expect compensation’

August 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:33 am IST - Bengaluru:

After the BBMP demolished two bathrooms and the rear wall of his house, Manjesh, a resident of Dasappa Layout in Doddabommasandra, had no choice but to move in with a relative. “My family is worried that the house may be razed,” says Manjesh, who had no idea that his house was on a stormwater drain.

“Before the demolition, officials from the BBMP had made markings on various properties. It was very confusing as our house had not been marked, nor were we informed in advance,” he added.

Vasudha lost a major portion of her house in Avani Sringeri Nagar. She says, “We have lived here for the last five years. We have been told that despite our paperwork being in order, we will not be getting any compensation.”
