Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd., (BMRCL) has installed ticket vending machines (TVMs) at Mahatma Gandhi Road, Indiranagar and Byappanahalli Metro Rail Stations and these machines will be operational from 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
A press release stated that the machines are capable of issuing single journey tickets (tokens) and add value/ add trip to tickets in contactless smart cards. Thus, passengers need not wait in long queues at ticket counters in these stations, the corporation said.
The touch-screen enabled machines display three languages — Kannada, English and Hindi. A passenger, after choosing the preferred language, can buy the ticket after selecting the destination station or the ticket amount. A passenger can buy up to eight tokens at a time from the machine.
The machines will accept coins of Rs. 5 and Rs. 10 to start with. They will also accept all types of Rs. 10, Rs. 20, Rs. 50, Rs. 100, Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 bank notes too. The TVM screen displays the acceptable denominations of currency for the information of passengers.
BMRCL has urged passengers not to insert soiled notes; any object other than coins or notes; Rs. 2 new coin as the TVM will consider it Re. 1 coin; contactless smart card in the credit card slot; operate the touch screen with any metal/ hard object and insert rejected coin/ notes repeatedly.
The corporation said the station areas are under surveillance of CCTV cameras and asked passengers to operate the machines responsibly.
