Three women hang to death in Bengaluru

Two women ended their lives hanging themselves to death at their residences over alleged dowry harassment in the city on Sunday.

A 27-year-old housewife Hemalatha, married for two years, hanged to death allegedly over dowry harassment at her residence in Okalipuram on Sunday night. She hanged to death on the first floor bedroom when her husband after a bitter tiff was watching television on the ground floor. The police have now arrested her husband Chandrashekhar, a teacher at an internation school. Police sources said that the deceased's parents in their inquest statement have alleged that Chandrashekhar was harassing their daughter for not having a child and wanted to marry again and had been demanding dowry to desist from another marriage. Sriramapura police have registered a case.

In another case, a mathematics lecturer at an engineering college in the city hanged herself to death over alleged dowry harassment. The deceased Manjula, 31, mother of one year old toddler, was married to one Surendra, for two and a half years. Manjula was found hanging from the ceiling fan at her house in SVM Layout, matthikere on Sunday night. Her husband Surendra discovered the body, after he returned home in the evening after visiting a relative. Based on deceased Manjula's parent's statement in the inquest where they alleged dowry harassment, Yeshwanthpur police have registered a case of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide and detained husband Surendra.

Woman hangs to death over losses in chit fund

A woman caught up in a debt trap due to losses she suffered running a chit fund scam ended her life hanging herself to death at her residence in Subramanya Nagar on Sunday morning. The deceased Kusuma, 44, was the wife of a bank manager nad had been running a saree business apart from a chitfund business from her residence for more than five years now. She was found hanging by her son Ritesh on Sunday morning after he returned from gym. Subramanya Nagar police have registered a case.
