Four women were robbed by a gang of three men posing as policemen in separate incidents in the city on Tuesday.

According to the police, the gang of three accosted Veena at 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Attiguppe bus-stop in Chandra Layout. The three men told her that they were police personnel. They then told her that she should not exhibit her gold jewellery as it would attract a fine of Rs. 3,000 as per the order of the city police commissioner. Besides it would attract the attention of muggers. Engaging her in such talk, they made her remove her gold chain weighing 120 grams and wrap it in a piece of paper.

Immediately after, Veena boarded a bus and when she opened the paper she found pebbles, and then it dawned on her that she had been robbed of her gold chain. The same gang allegedly robbed S.R Indira (65), Nagaratnamma (64), and Savithramma (66) of gold valuables weighing 149 grams.

Chandra Layout and Vijayanagar police registered cases. “We suspect that it is the same gang and are checking for the CCTV footage,” the police said.
