Passengers can look forward to three new facilities at Bengaluru City Railway Station.
On Saturday, a station navigation system (which displays the route from one station to another), a stairlift for senior citizens and the differently-abled, and a water vending machine were inaugurated at the station.
The Rs. 2.5 lakh-stairlift, provided free of cost to passengers, is a chair-like device to lift people up and down the stairs. At present, however, the stairlift on Platform 1 at the city station reaches short of the landing.
Passengers will be able to buy drinking water from the Rs. 3 lakh-vending machine for Re. 1 per a glass. The South Western Railway has given 10 such machines.
Speaking to presspersons, A.K. Manocha, Managing Director, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), said 7,500 such machines will be installed at railway stations across India.
A tender has been floated for installing 125 machines for 10 stations belonging to A1, A, B and C categories. By July, 20 stations will get water machines, which are installed if the Divisional Railway Manager provides space, water, electricity, and power.
